Sounel and Life-Drawing Study

Sounel is a character from my latest comic project, DiaJ. I wanted to make this a larger piece, but I’ve decided for now just to use it as reference for when I really begin to design the characters. It’s nice when a character fits the picture in your head.

This was from Life-Drawing class a few weeks ago. It’s not my best… I think it was one of the first value studies I had to do.
Ramsey and Clara

This was actually a mother’s day gift. One very nice thing about my mother is that she has always had an eye for art, and has been able to tell me more mistakes than I’ve been able to notice myself. At the same time, she’s encouraged me to work on my own designs and characters. So this piece includes two of my original characters, Ramsey and Clara, who take a big part in my latest project, Demon in a Jar.
I also did a marker version, but I’m not quite as satisfied with it. Color, at the moment, is my weakest point, and something I intend to work on over this year. I’m slowly getting value (balance of light and dark) but color is beyond me at the moment. That’s sort of a good thing because I’m not going to start another color comic any time soon; if I did that, I’d probably become discouraged. DiaJ is supposed to be black and white for the first ten or so pages.
